What is PRPIL?
Candidate Assessment of Performance
As with all teacher preparation programs in Massachusetts, PRPIL follows the Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) Framework designed by DESE. The CAP Process, which focuses on implementing feedback and goal setting, follows the five stages shown below:

Professional Standards for Teachers
As you improve your practice through CAP observations, you will simultaneously complete an online portfolio that captures your narrative reflections and spotlights various artifacts from your teaching that demonstrate your alignment with the Massachusetts Professional Standards for Teachers (PSTs). The portfolio requires teachers to address the following standards (and their related indicators):
- Standard 1: Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment
- Standard 2: Teaching All Students
- Standard 3: Family and Community Engagement
- Standard 4: Professional Culture
The PSTs that are assessed through your portfolio submission are also aligned to those found in DESE’s Model Rubric for Classroom Teacher Evaluation, ensuring continuity between the PRPIL program and your regular teacher evaluation cycle.
Your Support Team
Instructional Consultant: Your IC, an experienced coach provided by Etio, will aim to strengthen your pedagogical skills and share best practices. Your PRPIL Instructional Consultant will be your primary point of contact throughout the program and will not only work to strengthen your pedagogical skills, but will guide you through the CAP and portfolio processes.
Mentor: Your PRPIL Mentor is a teacher you identify in your school who holds the same license as the one you are seeking to advance, or a license in a closely-related field. This mentor will assist in conducting CAP observations, and support you from the perspective of your district, your student demographic, and the inherent challenges and nuances of your school. Please see the mentor webpage for specific mentor requirements and responsibilities.

What to Know About Applying to PRPIL
The Application:
PRPIL has rolling enrollment throughout the school year. Once you meet all eligibility requirements, you can submit a completed application for review, along with the $75.00 application fee. Once you are accepted into the program, you will need to submit an initial payment towards the program cost (either the first installment or the total sum) in order to be assigned an Instructional Consultant and officially begin the program. Please note: it is common for applications to be sent back for revisions prior to program acceptance.
Cost:
PRPIL’s program fee is $2,500.00. This can be paid through monthly installments or as a lump sum payment. Discounts are regularly available through PRPIL’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages. MTA members can use code MTAMember to save $100 off the cost of the program (please have your MTA number handy). Discounts can be used together, but be sure to separate the discount codes with a comma in the discount code box of the application.
Please note that PRPIL administration cannot determine your eligibility without a completed application, which will provide all information needed.
